Join us this evening as we welcome all lovers of classic cinema and Charlie Chaplin! We’ll be screening two delightful short films from 1917: The Immigrant and Easy Street, accompanied by live piano music from Mila Maia.
The Immigrant is a silent romantic comedy short written and directed by Charlie himself. The film stars Chaplin's Tramp character as an immigrant coming to the United States who is accused of theft on the voyage across the Atlantic Ocean and falls in love with a beautiful young woman along the way. It also stars Edna Purviance and Eric Campbell.
Easy Street is a. action-comedy film also starring and directed by Charlie Chaplin. A reformed tramp becomes a police constable who must fight a huge thug who dominates an inner-city street. The Moving Picture World (a trade magazine published at the time) wrote about this film: "At any rate, it is Chaplin at his funniest".
