ADAM SCHEFFLER
Silent Cinema is approaching its second anniversary in August. The past two years have been an incredible journey for me. I have had the opportunity to experience many memorable events and meet fascinating individuals with whom I have often collaborated. There have been both highs and lows, with some screenings drawing large crowds while others only a few attendees. It takes a great deal of courage, or perhaps a touch of madness, to embark on the challenge of opening and operating a cinema dedicated to showcasing the oldest silent films. In my case, I believe that both madness and courage have been instrumental in our success.
Today, I can confidently declare that Silent Cinema has been a triumph. Our hard work has paid off, as evidenced by our recent achievement of reaching the finals of The Great Irish Hospitality Awards. Furthermore, on July 1, 2024, we were honored with the title of Best Independent Cinema Experience, surpassing esteemed venues such as the Irish Film Institute, Light House Cinema, and Stella Cinema!
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Awards organizers, the judges, and our cinema's supporters for their participation in the voting process. The events that transpired at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Dublin that day were truly remarkable. This victory serves as a source of motivation for both myself and Silent Cinema. It is a testament to the value of perseverance and taking risks when one believes in their passion and dreams.
I want to congratulate the other Galway City businesses who were also winners of the Irish Hospitality Awards but in different categories. We are glad that your work and effort have been noticed. These are Gateway Shopping Park (Shopping/Entertainment Complex of the Year), Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival (Best Irish Festival), Eye Cinema Galway (Best Cinema Complex), and The Twelve Hotel (Boutique Hotel of the Year). Best Sports Bar: Highly Commended went to Darcy's Bar; Hotel of the Year: Highly Commended went to The Ardilaun Hotel; Restaurant of the Year: Highly Commended went to Woozza.
