There’s little to be added to what Adam has already said regarding the Silent Cinema’s award last Monday 1^st July. I think that you can probably get a sense of what this means to him simply from reading his words.

For myself, I’ve had the distinct privilege of being involved in his venture since almost the beginning.

I initially went along as a customer, excited to hear that someone was showcasing an art form that I’ve been in love with for more than fifty years. Talking afterward I was delighted to learn that for Adam it wasn’t just a commercial enterprise – to be honest, it could hardly have simply been that back then – but was a genuine passion project, a labour of love. We talked of how over the years we had been thrilled to see various films of that golden era supported by a full orchestra; how great it was to visit that period in the company of like-minded individuals; and how wonderful it would be to recreate something similar one day.

Whether it is with the sombre beauty of a Nosferatu or a Sunrise or the simple but unique charms of immortals like Buster Keaton or Laurel & Hardy, there is just something so very special about these legendary shadows, these icons who live on when those marvelous images flicker into life once more on a large screen, with piano accompaniment.

On which ‘note’ I’d like to say how lovely it has been to get to know the resident musicians such as Mila Maia and Desiree Oduah, who – along with various guest performers – add immeasurably to the experience.

And of course it has been a bonus to meet Adam’s wonderful, supportive wife Aleksandra. She really is a gem -- and a quiet force behind the scenes.

I know that Adam is keen now to move into a more suitable venue. This one has its limitations, to be sure; but to my mind has been a good start in leading towards what he intends to eventually do.

And to all of you regular viewers, whose encouragement and enthusiasm has been of such help, we send you the biggest thanks of all.
