A Report From The Ghooric Zone

September 25, 2024

CHARLEY BRADY

Greetings from Spain to Adam and Aleksandra in what I hear is a very warm Ireland!*

AND… you continue to taunt me with treasures that I won’t be there for! By now you’ll have shown the 1915 version of ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Which I’ve never seen. That’s right; despite the fact that it looks to be right up my street; and despite the fact that even the still image on the site makes me suspect that I am missing out on a HUGE acid flashback.

What really intrigued me about this one is that I saw it had Elmo Lincoln in the cast — the big burly bruiser who was the first ‘Tarzan of the Apes’ back in 1918. Unless you count child actor Gordon Griffith, who played the Lord of the Jungle as a kid.

Wonderland; Tarzan; acid flashbacks. Adam, if you ever show ‘Alice’ again, maybe you should run it with some clips from ‘The Magic Roundabout’. Throw Dylan and Zebedee into that mix and you’ll be overrun by aging hippies like Your Humble Narrator.**

On a more (ahem!) serious note, all the very best wishes for your showing of ‘Sherlock Jr.’ at the Clifden Arts Festival.

With Agustina, Mila, and Gustavo providing the music, you already have a head start. Their work on Keaton’s ‘The General’ (shown last month at Palas Cinema) was exemplary.

And - whisper it! - despite my love of that mighty epic, my favourite Keaton movie has always been ‘Sherlock Jr.’

OK. I’m typing this on my phone as my laptop is taking a tan and a vacation from me in sunny Ireland, and that doesn’t really work for me. So I wish you all the very best and I hope to see you soon.

‘Take care for now, man’, said Dylan.

‘Boing’, said Zebedee.

* Not anymore, Charley, reports of warm weather are greatly exaggerated, and gone with the wind ;)

** Bring it on!
